E-VERIFY

Are you required by law in your state to comply? Currently, a total of 20 states require private and/or public sector employers to verify employment through the use of E-Verify: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.

What is E-Verify? E-Verify is an electronic verification system used to verify the employment eligibility of new hires for your company. It is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, USCIS, Verification Division, and the Social Security Administration. If you are located in a state that requires compliance, Form I-9 information must be submitted via E-Verify for all newly hired employees no later than the 3rd business day after the employee’s start date. After a case is created in E-Verify, the employer must confirm the employee’s identity by match a photo ID with the E-Verify photo (this is to ensure valid documentation was provided and is automatic if the employee provided a Form I-551, Form I-766, or a US Passport/Passport Card). Once the employee’s info is entered, a result of the case is provided with further actions (if needed) to close the case.

How can PROWORK help? PROWORK has an add-on feature called E-Verify Connector. This is a seamless integration with the E-Verify Program provided by U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Participating companies are able to leverage this service directly from the PROWORK application.
